You need to do both but spending too much time on one or the other can be costly. There’s a balance (but it’s not always easy to know what that balance is).

In an upcoming free teleconference called “From Full Schedules to Fulfilled: Delegating and VA’s for Business Growth”, Heather & Deborah are going to talk about delegation, why business owners need to use an assistant, and how to use a virtual assistant more effectively. The two of them will be answering your questions and sharing some of their best advice on how to become a master delegator and how to use a VA really effectively… and they’ll show you how these elements contribute to your business’s growth.

In order for this teleconference to be really valuable, we want business owners from different kinds of businesses (and at different stages of business growth) to participate. Heather and Deb will share with you some great ideas to use other people to help you grow your business, and you’ll have a chance to ask them questions and pick their brains.

American Idol for Employees?


A worldwide talent shortage is upon us, could a nationwide talent search for qualified employees be in our future? The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that by 2035 the US will be faced with a 35 million worker shortage and in 2010 we are already short 10 million qualified workers! Similar estimates show this to be the same throughout Europe and Asia. With unemployment rates so high, how can this be true? It’s all in the word “qualified.”

In 1950 the majority of jobs had no special skill requirements. In 2010 about 70 percent of jobs now require specialized education and training beyond high school. This is one of the principal reasons the world is facing a “jobless” recovery. The skills of many workers no longer match much of the labor market requirements. This shortage of talent applies to virtually every industry and profession; including administrative assistants.

Quality is Key!

Working at an aerospace quality company for seven years showed me the true value of incorporating quality management principles in all areas of a business. I worked with companies that manufactured parts for the aerospace industry, so obviously quality was extremely important. Being in the training department I wasn’t sure that these principles really applied to my daily tasks since my department was not “mission critical.” As I learned more about the various quality management (QM) principles I realized that every business should study and implement QM techniques to stand-out from the competition. As a VA, I use these principles every day to help my clients get more out of their business.

Total Quality Management (TQM) relies on three main principles; satisfy the customer, satisfy the supplier, and continuously improve business processes. It’s important to ask yourself what you are doing in all three of these areas, and what you could be doing better.

Take the first step and realize that you can’t do everything yourself and that by spreading yourself too thin you may not be doing anything to your full potential. Take time to plan – sounds so simple, but we often overlook this step when we get overwhelmed. But the key to prevent being overwhelmed is to take the time to plan your day. I’ve heard it said that for every minute you spend organizing, you gain an hour in productivity – sounds like time worth spent to me! Schedule time to plan at the end of every day. Remember, people don’t plan to fail, but they do fail to plan.
