Key to Communication is Developing a Relationship

 

When you’re first assigned your Virtual Assistant, you’ll want to start developing a relationship right away. You’ll need to nurture this relationship just as you would any other positive collaboration. The key to success with your VA is communication! Make sure you are keeping in contact with your VA on a consistent basis. It is important for your VA to get to know you and your business, in order to start identifying goals and meeting your business needs.

*     The first step in getting to know your VA is the initial introductory call. This call is for both of you to become familiar with each other. Talk openly with your VA about your business and get to know her strengths.

*     You will want to schedule regular check in meetings with your VA! Maybe not everyday, but you certainly want them to be regular and productive.

*     Make sure that you and your VA are always on the same page when it comes to how you want you business handled. Have your VA summarize her understanding of your instructions. That way you’ll know if you have the same vision, or if there are some areas that need clarification.

*     You will also want to have a Project Management System set in place, (Google Doc, Asana, Basecamp, etc.). You won’t want to have emails going back and forth all day long on different projects. That’s mainly because the VA will need time to read and understand what you are asking, and that will cost you time and money better spent getting the work done. A Project Management System will help you better communicate with your VA, without her weeding through numerous emails.

*     Make sure to share your vision and future plans on where you would like your business to go. Your VA will be able to help guide you toward the success you envision for the future! *     Your VA should be your go to person. Your VA is definitely open to any suggestions you may have. This is, after all, a mutually beneficial collaboration. So work to develop a give and take on ideas and suggestions, you’ll be glad that you did.
