Using Social Media To Hype Your Next Event

Whether you own a brick and mortar business or run your business via the phone and web, you can use social media to hype your next event. Whether your business will have a booth at the state fair or you just are having a clearance sale, social media is a great way to create buzz about your event. Tweets and posts are the new handbills, only they are much less expensive and spread the word even faster!

One of the keys to using social media successfully to hype up big events is not to overuse this powerful tool. While you may be communicating with your customers through social media on a daily basis, you want your big events to be special. If you have a big event every week, it becomes just another post. Try to save the big guns for events that really matter.

  • Freebies. Everyone loves a freebie! It does not need to be an expensive giveaway, just something that you can easily give for free. If you are having a physical event, promote a door prize drawing that they can enter when they attend. For online events, offer a discount or a free item with purchase.
  • Imagery. Social media is all about images. Make the effort to have a great flier or poster made to share as a meme online. Catch their attention with bold colors, intriguing images and great tag lines.
  • Start the conversation early. Have a big event that you want people talking about? Start the conversation early, creating hashtags around the event. Start talking about the event weeks before to get the ball rolling, even before you begin your official marketing for the event.
  • Ask people to share! Don’t be shy when it comes to events you want to hype up. Ask your customers and followers to share your event information. You may be surprised how many more shares you get just by asking for it.

Social media can be one of the best tools to get the word out for promotions and other events. Just like all marketing, make sure to track your efforts and success so that you can use that information in the future for other big events you need to hype.
